Mindfulness is more than just a buzzword, it’s an incredibly useful skill to develop. This eight week course is based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and has been studied around the world for thirty years. Delivered in all major cancer centres worldwide, MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) is a structured program to take you deep into your own meditation experience. It has been proven in numerous studies to help with pain management, fatigue and stress, lowering rates of anxiety and depression. Participants frequently report that they find this program truly life altering. MBSR can help you live well, regardless of your circumstances. The course also includes a one day silent retreat (see MBSR Day Retreat below for dates).

During the classes you will learn practical ways for enhancing your awareness and managing the pressures of life. You will learn and practice mindfulness meditations including the body scan, mindful eating, mindful breathing, sitting and walking meditation and gentle yoga exercises. There will be some short lectures and exercises to explore and transform patterns of thinking and feeling and time for questions and discussion.
The final session on June 25th is an excursion to the Buddhist Monastery at Serpentine where you can experience lived mindfulness in the company of the long term meditating Buddhist monks and lay community. Details will be provided by your facilitator and carpooling is suggested.
