Clare Lubich is celebrating this week after getting news that she is now two years clear of breast cancer.
Clare, who is tall elegant and very fit-looking, is ambassador of Solaris Cancer Care in Cottesloe.
“Solaris saved me,” she said. “When I was diagnosed with cancer I was a 40-year-old single mother with two children under the age of three. Solaris was a gift with the support it provided.”
The Solaris Cancer Care in Cottesloe offers services that include cancer wellness and women’s support groups, individual and group counselling sessions, telephone support, outreach services in outer metropolitan and regional centres and a place to feel welcomed , supported and relaxed.
As a sommelier, Clare said her toughest challenge was fundraising for Solaris by doing Dry July! Next Saturday, Clare will be joining others in a fundraising dance party, hosted by the Cycling Development Foundation (CDF) and featuring Adam Hall and the Soul Playboys.
CDF is a not-for-profit group with a focus on hosting charity fundraiser events throughout the year to assist the community.
It’s director, Brad Hall, trains amateur cyclists to take part in Solaris Cancer Care’s annual Red Sky Ride charity bike ride around the South-West.
Brad said: “Most people know someone affected by cancer, whether they know a patient or a carer. These support services are vital in a community with an ever-increasing rate of cancers diagnosed on a daily basis and we are committed to raising the profile of these community agencies that are often stretched to the limit as more and more people find themselves needing complex support.”
