07 Nov Making Meaning from Cancer
The complexity of Lencie’s experience has given her deep insight in to the world of the cancer patient, and of our public health system. Since her diagnosis four years ago, Lencie has become a passionate health consumer advocate. She writes and speaks publicly about her experience and represents patients and carers on a number of hospital and university committees.
Lencie is also an experienced journalist and journalism educator. Her professional skills and nosy nature mean that she isone of those pesky patients who ask a lot of questions and seek active involvement in their own care. Some of her doctors welcome this. Others are not so keen. Either way, this combination of skills make her a highly effective communicator, and combined with her very recent experience of serious illness allow her to give a persuasive voice to the patient experience.
