Solaris Cancer Care is proud to announce that its Founder, Dr David Joske, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, recognising his significant service to haematology and to pioneering the use of integrative oncology.
Dr Joske, a leading haematologist and long‑time advocate for patient‑centred cancer care, has dedicated his career to improving the wellbeing of people living with cancer. His vision led to the establishment of Solaris Cancer Care in 2001, creating a unique model of support that integrates evidence‑based complementary therapies with conventional cancer treatment. Over the past 25 years, Solaris has grown into a trusted, statewide service supporting thousands of Western Australians each year.
The timing of this honour is especially meaningful, coinciding with Solaris Cancer Care’s 25th anniversary. Dr Joske’s leadership, compassion, and commitment to holistic care have shaped the organisation’s identity and impact, and this national recognition reflects the profound difference he has made to patients, families, and the broader health community.
Dr Joske said “I am very honoured and very happy to receive this recognition. The Solaris Foundation is a story every West Australian can and should be very proud of, and every member of the Solaris family shares a part of this award. I especially wish to thank Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for unstinting support, and my patients who taught me so much.”
Solaris Cancer Care CEO Tony Hume said the award was a fitting tribute to Dr Joske’s legacy. “David’s vision has changed the landscape of supportive cancer care in Western Australia. His commitment to treating the whole person, not just the disease has inspired countless people. We are thrilled to see his contribution recognised at a national level.”
